Best Places to Shop in Lexington – A Local’s Guide! 2022

Shopping in Lexington runs the gamut from large shopping centers to locally owned boutiques. When I travel, I like to shop at places I can’t at home and generally shop til I drop at local stores. Read on for some of the best places to shop in Lexington.

Shopping in Downtown Lexington

Staying at a hotel in downtown Lexington? Or do you have some extra time before an event at Rupp Arena? You’ll find some great places to shop in downtown Lexington.

The Black Market

The Black Market is an adorable boutique that features vintage inspired clothing, jewelry, and gifts. Located near downtown and the University of Kentucky, it’s a great place to pick up something to wear for a night out or a gift to take home.

The Square

The Square is located in the center of downtown Lexington and features museums, galleries, restaurants, and shopping. Located in a beautiful historic building, it’s worth a few minutes just to stroll around. Shopping includes Urban Outfitters and locally owned Alumni Hall where you can pick up UK fan gear.

Bella Rose

Bella Rose’s motto is “Big City Style, Small Town Charm” and that’s exactly what you’ll find here. This little boutique offers women of all ages the perfect outfit for weddings, derby, other special events, or fashionable everyday wear. One of the best clothing stores in Lexington, Bella Notte has been in business since 1980 because they offer on-trend styles and one of the most unique shops in Lexington.

Steel Mill & Co.

Steel Mill & Co. is a clothing store in Lexington selling a wide variety of affordable and casual fashions. Located in the popular Chevy Chase neighborhood, Steel Mill & Co. is a must for anyone looking for the latest in trendy designs.

One of the cutest places to shop in Lexington, Peplum was started by a mother-daughter team to offer shoppers a comfortable and affordable place to shop. Their shop is beautifully curated and has a great selection of women’s fashion.

Pronounced a-de-lay, this shop in the Chevy Chase neighborhood near downtown, sells lovely home decor, gifts, and jewelry. Adele is the perfect place to pick up a bridal or baby shower gift (or something for yourself!)

Ada & Lo

Need a gift? Head to Ada & Lo where you’ll find gifts for almost everyone. From cute baby and kids gifts, home decor, bridal gifts, to Kentucky-themed items, Ada & Lo’s boutique is packed with unique and affordable items. It’s located in the Southland Drive shopping corridor a few doors down from one of my favorite local places to eat. Grab brunch and then get lost in this charming shop!

Located in the Tates Creek Shopping Center, The Front Porch is brimming with unique and fun items. Shoppers will find the latest trendy gifts as well as colorful home decor and children’s items.

OK, this place is adorable! Part event space, part bar, and part clothing boutique – The Blushery is one-of-a-kind shopping in Lexington. Grab a glass of their famous frose to sip while you pursue racks of their on-trend clothing. Located in the Warehouse Block, you can feed your sweet tooth at one of the best bakeries in Lexington, before shopping at The Blushery.

Lucia’s World Emporium

One of the best places to shop small in Lexington is at Lucia’s World Emporium. Lucia’s is a fair trade marketplace selling ethically made and eco-friendly gifts. Not only will you find beautiful jewelry, accessories, decor, and artwork here, you can feel good about your purchase!

Best Places to Shop Vintage in Lexington

Street Scene

Street Scene is a quirky vintage shop in Lexington. Shoppers will find a wide array of vintage decor and clothing from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. You’ll also find cool local artwork, stationery, and other gifts.

Local Tip – Pop into Lexington Coffee & Tea next door to grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and shop from their amazing selection of coffees and teas.

The Domestic

The new kid in town for vintage shopping in Lexington is The Domestic. Shopping their curated collection of vintage furniture, decor and collectibles is a blast. Oh, be sure to check out the large room of quality vintage clothing too!

Local Tip – This area of Lexington is booming with cool shops and restaurants! Grab some macarons at La Petite Delicat and visit Decorator’s Warehouse for great home decor.

Scout Antique & Modern

Offering a gorgeous collection of vintage and modern furniture, a visit to Scout is a great way to shop local. They carry a great selection of mid-century furniture and accessories as well as other carefully selected pieces.

Local Tip – You’ll find a huge furniture consignment shop next door, Room Service, as well as other antique and home furnishing shops in the same block!

Best Places to Buy Kentucky Gifts

Prepare to fall in love with Lexington! So much so that you’ll want to bring home lots of local and Kentucky themed goodies and gifts. Here are some of my favorites places to buy Kentucky gifts.

Kentucky for Kentucky

This is the place to get cool and quirky Kentucky gifts. Their motto is Kentucky Kicks Ass and their selection of t-shirts, socks, art, and other Kentucky items reflects that attitude. My personal favorite from their collection is my Heaven Must Be a Kentucky Kind of Place. You’ll find tons of products with Y’ALL emblazoned on them as well an ever-changing selection of tees.

Local LEX Market

Local LEX Market is a one of the best places to shop in Lexington

The newly opened Local LEX Market is a great place to find Kentucky gifts as well as gifts made in Kentucky. You’ll find a wide array of items, all made in Kentucky by more than sixty craftspeople and include home decor, clothing, bath and body, food, and more. The owners have created a space that is welcoming and creative and I bet you won’t be able to leave without a bag full of goodies!

Shop Local Kentucky

Another apparel company regularly cranking out new Kentucky gear, is Shop Local Kentucky. Located downtown, this is a great stop if you are staying in one of the downtown hotels in Lexington. You’ll also find a ton of cool and vintage inspired University of Kentucky tees and sweatshirts.

Their two locations are conveniently located in two of the largest shopping areas in Lexington. Kentucky Branded has a huge selection of Kentucky gifts as well as UK and bourbon themed gifts.

The Keeneland Shop

One of the best things to do in Lexington is a visit to Keeneland. While you’re there, stop in their beautiful gift shop to pick up a Lexington souvenir or an equestrian-themed item.

Joseph-Beth Booksellers

At Joseph-Beth Booksellers, you’ll find one of the best bookstores in the country, as well as an awesome selection of Kentucky made gifts. They carry everything from Kentucky Proud food products to bourbon themed gifts, and an extensive collection of books about Lexington and Kentucky.

Where to Buy Bourbon in Lexington

Justins’ House of Bourbon

Justin’s has two locations in Kentucky, one in Lexington and the other in Louisville. Two fellas by the name of Justin started collecting bourbon and use their shops to share their love of Kentucky’s favorite spirit. While they specialize in bourbon, you’ll also find a wide variety of other spirts as well as an extensive selection of vintage bourbons.

Bourbon Creek Lexington

Located inside Kentucky’s largest indoor mall you’ll find the local gem, Bourbon Creek Lexington. In addition to being a great place to buy bourbon in Lexington, this local shop sells decorative home items made from reclaimed lumber, barn wood, and bourbon barrels.

Liquor Barn

Liquor Barn has locations throughout Kentucky, including several shops in Lexington. These mega stores sell extensive selections of all wine, beer, and alcohol, including bourbons.

Ruth Hunt Candies

Ruth Hunt Candies has been making and selling candies in Kentucky since 1921. The original recipes are still in use and includes favorites such as pulled cream candy (my family’s favorite) to bourbon balls.

Old Kentucky Chocolates

This local candy shop makes some of my favorite candies. I can’t get enough of their Derby Mints, smooth as silk minty chocolates. You’ll also find a wide variety of confections using Kentucky’s favorite spirit, bourbon, and seasonal items such as chocolate covered strawberries and grapes.

They also feature a great selection of Kentucky, UK, and horse themed gifts making this a great place to put together a gift basket. With three locations in Lexington, you’ll never be far from getting some of the best candy in Lexington!

Sharp’s Candies

Sharp's Candies in Lexington, KY is painted like a gingerbread house with a large candy cane shaped and painted sign in front. One of the best places to shop in Lexington.

With their gingerbread cottage candy building, you won’t be able to resist stopping in Sharp’s. Their specialties are their soft center candies and you’ll find over 100 different types of candies to choose from.

Where to Shop in Lexington

Lexington also features several large shopping centers including Fayette Mall, The Summit at Fritz Farm, and Hamburg Pavilion. All of these shopping areas include national chain stores as well as local shops.

Whether you shop the big box stores or focus your time shopping local in Lexington, you’ll find something for everyone!
