Why I Travel

Travel makes you modest.  You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”  Gustave Flaubert

I love this quote because the more I travel, the more I realize what a tiny place each of us occupies on this planet of ours.  I also realize that the more I see, the more there is to be seen.

I love my home.  Kentucky is a beautiful state full of warm, friendly people.  I’m lucky to call myself a Kentuckian.  But it’s only one teeny, tiny spot on this beautiful planet of ours.  Travel enriches our experience.  It connects us as humans.  Allows us to connect the dots that we are more alike than we are different.  Draws us closer to nature and all of the weird and wonderful things that make up this planet.

While travel to exotic places gets most of the attention.  I believe that the spirit of travel exists within us and it’s up to us to find that spirit and use it to appreciate the world and the people we come in contact with whether they be at our local farmers’ market or halfway across the world.  That’s why I travel, to appreciate and experience the connection we all share.

The world is a big place, but it’s smaller than we think.
